Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of Electricity

WHEREAS, the City of Asbury Park has determined to move forward with the EMEX Reverse Auction in order procure electricity for the City owned property and street lights; and

 

WHEREAS, the Local Unit Technology Pilot Program and Study Act (P.L. 2001, c. 30) (the “Act”) authorizes the purchase of electricity supply service for public use through the use of an online auction service; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Asbury Park utilized the online auction services of EMEX, LLC, an approved vendor pursuant to the Act, waiver number EMEX LLC-1, located at www.energymarketexchange.com; and

 

WHEREAS, EMEX, LLC is compensated for all services rendered through the participating supplier that a contract is awarded to; and

             

WHEREAS, the auction has been conducted pursuant to the Act on December 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM EST; and

 

WHEREAS, the winning bid is as follows: Aggressive Energy for City owned properties and street lights at a rate of $0.07670 per kilowatt hour; Plymouth Rock Energy for natural gas at a rate of $0.43980 per therm; XOOM Energy for street lights at a rate of $0.04460 kilowatt hour; and

 

WHEREAS, the contract lengths shall be for two years commencing on February 1, 2018; and

 

WHEREAS, the winning bids will result in an approximate savings, depending on energy usage of $85,000.00 to $100,000; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Manager is hereby authorized to sign any and all paperwork associated with the energy auction.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council of the City of Asbury Park do hereby authorized to the execution of a contract for electricity proffered by the Aggressive Energy in the EMEX Reverse Auction.
